Derek is an accomplished and passionate leader, entrepreneur with a background in management consulting, a founding member of technology and talent advisory consulting firms; including firms such as the Monitor Company, AT Kearney, Icon Medialab and Eric Salmon and Partners. He co-founded and is the Managing Partner of TFA International a group he founded in 2009 which manages a family fund that invests in venture, private equity and other asset classes. He also acts as Chief Investment Relations Officer for Eduworks, having been supporting the company since 2019 with the CEO and founders. He brings his enthusiasm and experience for innovation, product strategy and team building to TFA’s portfolio of tech companies in various industries and segments. He is an advisor to various companies from startups to publicly listed companies.

He is a fluent Chinese speaker who understands both Western and Chinese cultures with equal in-depth knowledge and has supported many Western companies to be successful in China.

Derek is based in New York, with an international team in the US, Europe and Asia. He also serves in as a board member and advisor for several companies including Eduworks a Data Analytics and AI company, Medpoint healthcare, Two Bit Circus, a gaming and entertainment F&B company etc. Derek received his Bachelor’s degree from UCLA and is Alumni Board of Director Emeritus. He is also passionate for art, music and culture and plays a role on the international board of the New York Philharmonic and the US-China Music Institute at Bard College.
